VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: COMMUNITY DIALOGUES FACILITATOR
General Statement of Duties:
YWCA Boston Community Dialogues are a series of facilitated discussions about race and ethnicity among Boston community members. The goal is to communicate about race and ethnicity and foster social connections among diverse groups of people.
A dialogue series comprises four, two-hour sessions led by 2 experienced facilitators. An optional 5th session is encouraged for participants to move from discussion to community action.
Volunteer facilitators are supported by professional YWCA Boston staff. Volunteer facilitators will receive extensive training prior to conducting a dialogue series.
Experience/Qualifications:
- 3 to 4 years of facilitation or diversity training experience and a natural ability to facilitate dialogue
- Residency in, or familiarity with, at least one of Boston's neighborhoods
- Ability to turn conflict into learning
- Awareness of his/her racial identity, personal biases and history related to racism
- Ability to relate well with people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Ability to work independently to coordinate logistics (travel to site, plan with co-facilitator, etc)
- Ability to facilitate at least one dialogue series per year and to travel to various locations throughout the city
- Enthusiasm, positive sense of humor and can do attitude.
- Ability or willingness to assist with participant recruitment a plus
Major Duties:
- Work collaboratively with co-facilitator to plan and lead a thoughtful and dynamic dialogue
- Complete all necessary session preparation and follow up
- Community consistently with co-facilitator and program staff
- Complete evaluation and reporting
